Aloha District 5020 Rotarians!   It is with extreme Joy that I greet you, this brand-new Rotary Year, as your District Governor.  It is a time to look forward and to plan your connections with each other, with your community and with the world.  But let’s also value the year that is ending as I know former District Governor Craig is so appreciative of the things you accomplished, and he wants to see your continued success.

Rotary International Mark Maloney must have had District 5020 in mind when he selected the theme for this year … “Rotary Connects the World”.   His vision was all the countries of the world coming together to connect under Rotary.  We do that.  Every single day in District 5020 we connect internationally.  Rotarians in the country of the United States work together with Rotarians from the country of Canada.

You are the game changers.  You know you are going to continue to be a driving force in your community and around the world.  You create the impact that makes Rotary so respected.

There is excitement in the air.  Rumour is, there may be as many as three new Rotary clubs in our district this year.  Reaching out to people and inviting them to help others by becoming Rotarians is the gift you give to your neighbours and friends.   What a wonderful opportunity to connect with new people and what a unique way to help a newcomer to the community get instantly involved.

Courtenay Rotarians were goggle eyed over the new Club President and District Governor at their first meeting of the new Rotary year

I asked a club to play “I spy” at their installation event. (Thank you, Silverdale Rotary, for having me).  I wanted them to look around the room and identify all the people they would not have met if they had not become a Rotarian.  I would challenge you to do the same.  Look at how your circle of friends and acquaintances in your community has grown.  You have the opportunity to tell those fellow Rotarians what they mean to you.  Sometimes we forget to connect with those closest to us.

There is one more thing that we all need to celebrate and tell others about:  The Rotary Foundation.  In a world of fake news and undesirable financial transactions, isn’t it great to know you are connected to a Foundation that receives the highest rating Charity Navigator can award?  Make this the year you sign up with the automatic donation program.

Dale (Batman) and Molly (10-Year-old Labradoodle) will be traveling with me throughout the district and we all look forward to connecting with you.
