Michael was born in Vancouver, B.C. He graduated from St. George’s School and attended U.B.C. for two years. Michael was then sponsored to take an overseas training course with the British Motor Corporation (BMC) in 1961 and 1962 in Birmingham and Oxford, England. He returned to Canada to work for BMC for three years. In 1965, he joined Chrysler Corporation in their Vancouver regional office for 6 years and was transferred to The Alberta regional office for a further seven years.

In 1977 Michael entered a partnership with a Chrysler dealership in Peace River, Alberta, and was there for 25 years. During his time in Peace River he became very involved with his municipality and with the Province of Alberta. Michael was elected to town council in 1983 and to the position of Mayor in 1986. He was acclaimed to that position again in 1989, 1992 and 1995. He was a member of the Board, and Chairman, of the Fairview College Board of Governors and also a member of the Board of Governors of Grande Prairie College. He served on two Tax Reform Commissions and a number of other provincial boards and commissions. He currently serves on the Recreation Commission, the Board of Variance and the Parks Committee in his area of Vancouver Island. In his far distant past Michael raced sports cars in British Columbia and the northwestern United States winning a production class in an Austin Healy in 1960 and a modified class in a Lotus in 1963.

Michael’s involvement with volunteer work began as a member of the Kinsmen Club of Red Deer and continued with the Kinsmen Club in Peace River. He was made an Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Peace River in 1986 for the 12 years he was the Mayor and then joined the club as a regular member in 1998. When he retired and moved to Vancouver Island in 2003 he joined the Rotary Club of Qualicum Beach. Michael has held the positions of Club Secretary, Club President and Assistant Governor. He is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, a Major Donor and a level six benefactor.
